Jaime of Amigos de la Playa unveiled the latest addition to the brewery’s juicy and hazy beer line-up, the Galaxy Fleeb Juice, a Hazy IPA featuring the eye-catching art of dnovio. A percentage of the proceeds will be directed to feeding the less fortunate in the areas near the brewery in Metro Manila.
STYLE GUIDELINES
This beer is being evaluated as a Specialty IPA: New England IPA (21B) in the context of the provisional guidelines of the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) for the said beer style. The most current version of the guidelines can be found on the BJCP website.
“Juicy or Hazy Pale Ale,” “Juicy or Hazy IPA,” and “Juicy or Hazy Double IPA” are beer styles from the 2020 Brewers Association (BA) Beer Style Guidelines. These styles are noted to represent what enthusiasts and brewers refer to as New England IPAs or Hazy IPAs.

TASTING NOTES
Galaxy Fleeb Juice is a hazy beer with a goldenrod color. A white cream-like head is present but does not last long. The nose is predominantly characterized by fragrant ripe mangoes with some hints of passion fruit and lychee esters.
On the palate, Galaxy Fleeb Juice has a body and a carbonation level a notch below medium with a slightly watery mouthfeel. The flavor makes up for the palate with juicy ripe mangoes and the familiar lychee esters. A hint of grapefruit citrus can also be detected. Meanwhile, a bready malt presence is moderately low and supportive. Bitterness is also relatively low with a grass-like character. The aftertaste lingers a bit, leaving impressions of lemon peel, lychees, and mangoes.
THE VERDICT
With Galaxy Fleeb Juice, Amigos got the juicy ripe mango fruitiness right with the complementing esters akin to lychees in the aroma and flavor. With bitterness kept low, this New England IPA is a palatable beverage worthy of being called “beer juice.” The future iterations of Galaxy Fleeb Juice could have more body and mouthfeel.
