With Exposure, Nightmare Brewing (New York) delivers a masterclass on crafting insanely fragrant and tasty Double IPAs using hops frozen with liquid nitrogen.
Exposure is a Double IPA created using Cryo Citra and Mosaic hops. Cryo hops are hop cones that were frozen with liquid nitrogen to preserve the essential oils and resins that enhance the flavors and aromas of beers. According to the brewery, exposure is a type of freezing torture favored by the Chinese government to punish the practitioners of Falun Gong since 1999.

TASTING NOTES
Exposure pours a hazy yellow-orange beer with a noticeable white head. The nose is characterized prominently by oranges, marmalade, and hints of fresh vegetables. Meanwhile, the palate of this beer is composed of pronounced citrus flavors akin to oranges and pineapples as well as moderate hop bitterness to balance said flavors. Leafy, green tea-like notes were also noted towards the end and continue to linger after a sip.
THE VERDICT
Overall, Exposure by Nightmare Brewing Company is an impressive unfiltered Double IPA. This Imperial IPA managed to deliver full-on its citrus fruity and bitter hop flavors without compromising its drinkability– all at 10.1% ABV. This beer also conforms with the style with its malt presence taking the back seat to allow the mentioned hop characteristics to flourish.
