TASTING NOTES
Pale gold with slight haziness; foamy white head. The aroma was dominated by moderately high impressions of orange and lime peels with a balmy quality; malt aroma was present but at a low level. Light-medium body; moderate carbonation. The flavor profile balanced moderate bready malts (reminiscent of Czech Premium Pale Lagers) with equally-intense orange zest, and lychees with resiny and balmy qualities. Medium-low bitterness; very dry. Finish was likewise dry with recurring hints of lemon/lime zest.
THE VERDICT
As expected from a “Hoppy Lager” or “India Pale Lager (IPL),” Other Ephemera is a light and refreshing lager that showcased citrussy hop qualities akin to an American IPA. The balance between malts and hops reminded us that this is still a lager and not a hop-heavy American IPA, while dryness (lack of sweetness) enhanced that thirst-quenching aspect of this beer. Other Ephemera is simply a straight-up hopped-up lager or IPL and we think is an excellent take on the hybrid style.
